Home for Life

Campaign for a Permanent Home for Lifehouse

When joy can be found, everyone wins. Lifehouse has been at the great intersection of hopes and dreams for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) for the past 68 years. With the capital campaign, Home for Life: Campaign for a Permanent Home for Lifehouse, the purchase and renovation of 18 Professional Center Parkway is a permanent hub for our community offering a lifetime of service and support.

Please join us in realizing our next great chapter.

Lifehouse has served the needs of individuals with I/DD since 1954. In this time we have evolved from a small school launched by parents who believed their children could live and learn well in the community, to a thriving organization serving more than 320 adults and 50 children. We believe all individuals deserve the right to independent lives filled with integrity, joy and aspiration. Our array of services support this belief and offer different approaches to meet the requirements of each individual.

Today we are building our own foundation and independence for life. By acquiring and refurbishing this 9,190 sq. ft. office building in San Rafael, we are now able to help control operating costs and provide a permanent home from which we can offer our life-time services.

  • The Lifehouse monthly mortgage now costs less than our previous leased offices.

  • The Lifehouse building has over 3000 sq ft additional office space.

  • Lifehouse has been compelled to move offices every six years due to  increased lease costs and increased capacity needs. In this permanent home, Lifehouse is now seen as an anchor in the community.

  • The monthly cost savings translates to direct service enhancements.

  • Lifehouse now has a secure asset on its books and increased financial security.

The acquisition for Lifehouse offers several advantage for its growing staff:

  • Lifehouse is a vital resource for the San Francisco Bay Area. Building ownership stabilizes the organization’s long-term presence in the region where it serves individuals with I/DD for lifetimes of required care.

  • Training rooms with flexible seating structures provide trainings not only for Lifehouse participants and staff but also for other care providers in the special-needs community, leveraging Lifehouse’s expertise and experience to assist other organizations serving similar populations.

  • The permanent “home” for Lifehouse professionalizes the services and providers of this sector. The permanent home also offers the Bay Area a symbol of its diversity, optimism and the dignity it affords a traditionally “unseen” community.

  • Lifehouse employs 500 individuals, most of whom are direct care providers to the over 370 individuals who receive services from Lifehouse. The new building houses staff and provides touchdown work stations, training center and support-team meeting areas for the direct care professionals.
