Lifehouse Needs A Wheelchair Van

Giving Tuesday is a movement, built by people around the world, to celebrate giving of all kinds. We celebrate this day after Thanksgiving Day, Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, and Cyber Monday. This day let’s Lifehouse come together with many local businesses to inspire people to take collaborative action to contribute to worthy causes and to remind everyone that everyone has something to give.

With that said, Lifehouse is reaching out to everyone who believes in our mission to improve the quality of life for people with developmental disabilities and is asking for your help to raise funds to purchase a new wheelchair van by the end of the year.

Wheelchair accessible vans provide safe, reliable transportation for users who want greater freedom and independence. Lifehouse has been providing such services to people with disabilities for over sixty years, and we will continue to help each person become as independent as possible and participate fully in our community for a lifetime.

Take the Being Seen Challenge

Being Seen Challenge

Being Seen offers unique access into the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and the people who support their independent living. Individuals were asked to reflect upon their own disabilities, and the outcome was an unexpected eye-opener.

Following the early success of the film, Paul Zehrer and Chikara Motomura have now launched the campaign, Being Seen Challenge. “My hope is that, in some small way, this film offers viewers an opportunity to get beyond the ‘otherness’ that separates us and opens [viewers] to a more expansive insight of people with developmental disabilities”. – Paul Zehrer, Producer/Director

Lifehouse Documentary Awarded a Telly

Lifehouse Awarded TellyThe Telly Awards has named PotentialSF a Social Issues Category Bronze winner in the 37th Annual Telly Awards for their piece entitled “Lifehouse”. With over 13,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor.

The film is a window into the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and the people who support their independent living. The film explores many difficult questions they and their families must grapple with, while underscoring that, despite their disabilities, these people possess a vast range of emotional, intellectual, and artistic abilities.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video, and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards. “PotentialSF’s accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Less than 10% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Silver Telly, our highest honor. Approximately 25% of entries are chosen as Winners of the Bronze Telly.

Congratulations to Paul Zehrer and Chikara Motomura from PotentialSF for their beautiful work and support to Lifehouse Agency!

An Evening of Recognition and Thanks

Thank you to everyone who joined us for this year’s Annual Awards Banquet on October 2, 2015. Over 350 guests gathered at Embassy Suites in San Rafael to celebrate the people we serve, our dedicated staff and the wonderful community members, whose generosity and support have helped Lifehouse continue its important work. The warmth and camaraderie could be felt throughout the room as guest enjoyed a sit-down dinner, awards presentation hosted by Master of Ceremonies Lifehouse’s own Kate O’Connor and dancing with DJ Terri DeLangis. We look forward to seeing everyone at next year’s banquet! A special thanks to our volunteers and photographer Richard Wheeler.
