Recreational Programs

Lifehouse is committed to helping our clients access social and recreational activities in the community. In 1993, Lifehouse initiated the development of the Marin Coalition with other agencies who serve people with developmental disabilities. The Marin Coalition developed a basketball team, a teen recreation program, and has worked closely with the Parks and Recreation Department to promote community activities, such as monthly dances. Lifehouse also worked with a local Lions Club to start the second Lions Club in the country geared toward those with developmental disabilities.

Our clients are involved in many community activities, including volunteering at local organizations, participating in Special Olympics, horseback riding, swimming and exercise programs, dinners out, bowling and house parties. Through Lifehouse’s travel programs, our clients have the opportunity to visit a variety of exciting destinations, such as Mexico, Disneyland, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Reno, Las Vegas and New York. Lifehouse also hosts several community events throughout the year, including a summer picnic, awards banquet, holiday party and yachting party.

TRIP Movie GroupTeen Recreation Integration Program (TRIP)
TRIP is a unique recreation program designed to provide social and recreational opportunities to young people with developmental disabilities between the ages of 13-22. It is at this age that many people with disabilities get “left behind” by other individuals in their age group and miss out on many of the opportunities for fun and growth that teenage life is supposed to be about. TRIP emphasizes the participants being fully included in activities and making connections with one another. Activity choices are driven by the participants’ interests. Participants are arranged in groups of one to three people and accompanied by a recreation coach and a teen mentor. Some activities may lead to larger groups. TRIP has been providing recreation opportunities for young people in Marin County for over three years. And now, TRIP is expanding to serve young adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
