Family and community Information:
Lifehouse is committed to informing parents, families and community members about all the options
and types of services available to developmentally disabled people.
We have professional
staff available to visit schools and service organizations to
provide detailed information. We can also help assess your needs
and refer you to appropriate agencies for more information and services.
Recreational programs:
Lifehouse is committed to helping clients access social
and recreational activities in the community. In 1993, Lifehouse
initiated the development of a Marin County coalition with other
agencies that serve people with developmental disabilities. Since
then, the coalition developed a basketball team, and has worked
closely with the Parks and Recreation Departments to promote community
activities such as monthly dances and get-togethers. Lifehouse also
worked with a local Lions Club to start the second Lions Club in
the country geared toward those with developmental disabilities.
We also offer travel programs and we’ve taken our clients
to a variety of locations including Disneyland, Lake Tahoe, Yosemite,
Reno, Las Vegas, and New York. Some of our local annual events include
a picnic, awards banquet, holiday party, and yachting party. Clients
are involved in many community activities including volunteering
for various organizations, participating in Special Olympics, horseback
riding, swimming and exercise programs, dinners out, bowling and
house parties, and visits with “buddy volunteers” into
the community.
