Marin County Office of Education Superintendent of SchoolsMary Jane Burke began her career in education as an Instructional Assistant and has gone on to serve as a Teacher, Principal, Special Education Director, Assistant Superintendent and Deputy Superintendent. In 1994, she was elected Marin County Superintendent of Schools and continues to serve in that office. Mary Jane is known for her enthusiastic championing of all students in public and private schools. She is a voice for equality and opportunity and is committed to seeing that all students are given a strong start by receiving a quality 21st Century education so that they possess the knowledge, skills, and values needed for success and in life.
Mary Jane has devoted her life to education and has actually taught many of the people who are supported by Lifehouse. She is widely respected in her field and has received numerous awards.
Mary Jane currently serves as Chair of the Marin County Treasury Oversight Committee for the County of Marin and served as past President of the California County Superintendents Educational Services Associations (CCSESA). She is a longtime member of the Fiscal Crisis and Management Assistance Team (FCMAT) Board of Directors and currently serves as President. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Dominican University of California. For many years, Mary Jane served on the Lifehouse Board of Directors. She now sits on the Lifehouse Advisory Council.
